Documenting the American South

Provides access to digitized documents and images regarding the American South from the first colonies in Virginia through the 20th century. Documents are organized into 14 themed collections (Oral Histories of the American South, North American Slave Narratives, Charlotte, etc.) and are compiled by the University Library at the University of North Carolina from its research collections and institutions. Primary sources are key elements of this collection with includes, maps, books, letters, memoirs, and rare books. Several of the collections focus on North Carolina, however, a geographic search shows 44 of the 50 states are represented in the documentation.
